The study of philosophy is very important in education, for it provides people with an understanding of why decisions are made in situations. There are three major types of questions when studying philosophy. One is metaphysics, which are those that deal with the nature of reality. Epistemology is the question that deals with the knowledge and truth. And finally axiology, deals with values. Philosophy has a large influence on education. Teachers are natural philosophers, passing on their knowledge to their students. Idealism, realism, pragmatism, and existentialism are the four schools of philosophy. Each has a different influence on education. In an education system, I believe it is important to introduce all four ideas, but not stress one over the other. It is important for teachers to keep an open-mind when in the classroom.
